The Ininew Friendship
Centre requires the services of an
Aboriginal
Combined Courtworker
Summary of Position
To assist Aboriginal
persons who come into conflict with Federal,
Provincial, Municipal and First Nations
laws. These will include, but are not
restricted to; Criminal Code of Canada,
Youth Criminal Justice Act, Child and Family
Services Act, First Nation and Municipal
by-laws and provincial offences.
To assist Aboriginal
people involved in the Canadian justice
system to better understand their rights,
options and responsibilities when appearing
before the courts.
To work with all justice
personnel to ensure that Aboriginal people
who come into contact with the law receive
equitable and reasonable treatment during
the court process.
Collaborate with the
client in the development of a plan of
action based upon the identified needs of
the client during the intake process. The
goal of the plan of action will be to
address the root causes of the client’s
behaviour that brought them before the
courts.
To attend meetings,
workshops, seminars and conferences that
relate to the Courtworkers duties, and which
are encouraged by their immediate supervisor
and further to objectives of the Courtwork
Programme.
There may be overnight
travel required as Provincial Courts are
located in Cochrane, Kapuskasing and Hearst.
