Mee-Quam
Youth Residence is a ten bed open
custody/detention program that the
Provincial Director for Custody has
decided is where you will serve your
court-ordered sentence as a result of a
conviction for criminal behavior or your
remand time as you await your day in
court.
Mee-Quam
Youth Residence resembles a regular
house in many ways and is not locked;
however you cannot leave without
permission. While serving your sentence
you may have the opportunity to be in
the community, always with staff
escorting you, unless you have an
approved Reintegration Leave from the
Provincial Director. When you are
granted a Reintegration Leave, you will
be able to go without staff escort for
specific times to a specific destination
as part of your rehabilitation plan.
The following are two
main reasons for being sent to Mee-Quam
Youth Residence:
1) It is the
court’s penalty to you for breaking
the law and,
2) It is your
opportunity to work in a supportive
environment at changing those things
in your life that caused you to
commit criminal acts.
