What is Expected of You While at Mee-Quam Youth Residence?

You are expected to begin to take responsibility for your behaviour by:

1) Being honest with yourself about what behaviour has caused you to be in your present situation; what has occurred in your life with your family, friends and others.

2) Accepting your part in the events that brought you to your current situation.

3) Respecting the rights and responsibilities of all others.

4) Following the rules at Mee-Quam Youth Residence while you live here.

Taking an honest look is a difficult task for anyone and it is often frightening and painful to do. It may make you feel sad, embarrassed, ashamed, hurt or angry. You may feel you are not responsible for the actions of others which have seriously affected you, but remember you are the one who has been placed in custody or detention and whose freedom has been taken away. Only you can prevent yourself from returning to a place such as Mee-Quam Youth Residence. To help you learn responsible behaivour, positive support from staff is vital and you will also learn how to receive positive peer support to learn how to be genuine, helpful and caring in your relationships
