Privilege System and Motivational System


The Privilege System at Mee-Quam Youth Residence is to show you that:

Good Behaviour = Trust

Time

From the moment you wake up in the morning to the time you go to sleep at night, you will have the opportunity to earn points. You will earn points for keeping your room clean and your chores completed, participating positively in facility and community programs, following staff direction, being respectful to others and so on. At the end of each day, your points are totaled and posted for your information. Each week, you daily points are averaged and your average determines the level you have achieved. The privileges you will enjoy depend on your level.

LEVEL ONE

1) You may participate in school program

2) You may participate in in-house work, recreation and educational programs

3) You may speak with your parents or guardians on the telephone once per day

4) You may visit in-house with parents or guardian

5) You may receive $6.00 allowance if you average level three points for the week and $8.00 allowance if you average level 4 points for the week. Level one and two do not receive an allowance.

6) You may advance to level 2 after one week if averaging level two or higher points.

 

LEVEL TWO

1) You may participate in school program

2) You may participate in in-house work, recreation and education program

3) You may speak with parents or guardians on the telephone once per day

4) You may visit in-house with parents or guardian

5) You may receive $6.00 allowance if you average level three points for the week and $8.00 allowance if you average level 4 points for the week. Level one and two do not receive an allowance.

6) You may advance to level 3 after one week if averaging level three or higher points


LEVEL THREE

1) You may participate in school program

2) You may participate in in-house work, recreation and education programs

3) You may speak with parents or guardians on the telephone once per day

4) You may visit in-house with parents or guardian

5) You may receive $6.00 allowance if you average level three points for the week and $8.00 allowance if you average level 4 points for the week. Level one and two do not receive an allowance.

6) You may advance to level four after one week, if averaging level four points

LEVEL FOUR

1) You may participate in school program

2) You may participate in in-house work, recreation and education programs

3) You may participate in all community activities as approved by Case Manager

4) You may speak with parents or guardians on the telephone once per day

5) You may apply to speak on the telephone with someone other than your parents or guardians once per week

6) You may visit in-house with parents or guardian

7) You may visit in the community with parents or guardians after four weeks in the facility

8) You may watch television from 2200 to 2300 nightly

9) You may receive $6.00 allowance if you average level three points for the week and $8.00 allowance if you average level 4 pointes for the week. Level one and two do not receive an allowance.

You will require a weekly point average of 60 or higher to achieve level four privileges. An average of 54 to 59 points earns you level three privileges. If you have a weekly point average of 48 to 53, you achieve level two privileges. Below 48 pointes earns you level one privileges. Level one residents remain housebound and must be up in their rooms at 2200 hours. If you receive 5 zeros in a day, you are ineligible for outings that evening and if you receive 48 points or lower in a day you are housebound the following day.

Some behaviours are considered infractions and will result in an immediate behaviour report and level drop. If you receive a negative behaviour report you will not be eligible for outings that day and the next. Examples are:

Physical contact (play or fighting) -loss of one level

Disrespect to others -loss of one level

Refusal to attend school/return from school -loss of one level

Refusal to perform chores/work program -loss of one level

Refusal to participate in programs -loss of one level

Out of bounds without permission -loss of one level

Possession of smoking contraband -loss of one level

Possession of contraband -drop to level one

Violations of safety and security -drop to level one

Violations of terms of reintegration leave -drop to level one

Damage to house and property -drop to level one

Assault or other criminal activity -drop to level one

 

In the case of criminal activity, the police will be contacted and charges laid as appropriate.

Once lost, levels can only be earned through a combination of the following:

Assigned consequences (extra chores, essays, etc.) must be completed

Averaged points must warrant an advance
